Post Modern Church Survival Tip (Freedom in Christ)

What is the concept of “freedom” in Christ? Freedom means different things to many people. And I’m not certain that the true meaning of freedom is being properly represented from scripture in these last days. Here are some examples of where freedom is being used by Christians to justify one’s choices in how they determine to live:

*Witchcraft, Rebellion, Manipulation, Dominion
*Self mutilation, Tattoos, Body piercings, Cutting of the flesh
*Sexual Immorality, Fornication, Adultery, Homosexuality
*Divorce and Remarriage, Fertility
*Modesty of women, Make-up, Jewelry, Attire, Conduct
*Role of men, Responsibility, Accountability, Conduct
*Contemporary “Christian” Music (CCM), Rock n Roll Music, Country Music
*Fellowship with the world, Friendship with the world
*Drinking Alcohol, Going to bars, Smoking
*Entertainment, R-rated Movies, Theatres, Horror shows
*Family Values
*Bible versions/translations, Doctrinal persuasions, Assembly of Believers, Church Leadership

And the list goes on and on, as far as one’s imagination can travel. It seems as though each generation has its’ own take on what is right and wrong; good and evil; clean and unclean. In these last days, many people even pollute the observance of Communion by claiming that a cookie and Kool-Aid are acceptable substitutes for unleavened bread and wine.

The common belief is that God knows our heart and the true meaning behind what is being done. But taking advantage of the grace and mercy of God by departing from the authority of God’s Word and creating one’s own standards for living is not the freedom that comes as a result of being saved. Freedom for a Christian is freedom from being a slave to sin. As a result of being adopted into the family of God, we are anointed by the Holy Spirit and have overcome the world. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2).”

So the best way to resolve the true meaning of a Christian’s freedom is to refer to the Word of God in every circumstance of life. God’s ways are so much higher than our ways. Our freedom is not a freedom, liberty, or license to do as we please and to live as we want. If we are in Christ, we follow Jesus. And as we follow Jesus, we come to the end of ourselves, as we have a new nature in Christ. God’s Spirit resides in us and directs us into a deeper walk with the Lord, and we produce good fruit.

One of many benefits of the Word of God is that is doesn’t change in time, and we can depend on it as a timeless standard for all mankind, in every generation. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and forever.”

Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
